CALL CONNECTS - September 2025
CALL @ CLIMATE WEEK
Entre el Aire y el Agua (Amid the Air and the Water) WALK
CALL joined Guardians of Flushing Bay at their annual end-of-season celebration, SaturBAY, last Saturday, September 27th! The walking tour, led by artist and Corona organizer Niceli Portugal, educated participants about the rising phenomenon of cloudbursts and flooding in Corona, Queens. Along the way, Amy Motzny, Director of Integrated Water Management at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, shared insights into the infrastructural planning underway to help mitigate the flooding. At each stop, participants created art and sent messages to water that were read upon arrival at Flushing Bay.
ON CLIMATE COALITIONS: A CONVERSATION WITH MARY MISS
On Monday, September 29th, Mary Miss presented her work at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. This was followed by a conversation with Kate Orff (GSAPP, SCAPE) moderated by Bart-Jan Polman (GSAPP) at Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.
Governors State Exhibition
Mary Miss was honored on September 23rd in celebration of the recent artist-led restoration of her iconic earthwork "Field Rotation" (1981) at Governors State University.
"Field Rotation" was Miss' first permanent work, and according to Mary: "The roots of everything I've done since are in this work."
About theNate

CALL is thrilled to share that the Tibbetts Estuary Tapestry is now installed in Poland at the 18th International Textile Triennial!
Artist Matthew López-Jensen says, "The theme of the show is Deconstruction/Reconstruction, and the tapestry is literally about a deconstruction/reconstruction happening in the Bronx. It also feels like a piece of the BX is on view over there."
Honoring the Ancestors: A Tibbetts Brook Tribute
Join artist Dennis RedMoon Darkeem at the
JBOLC Farmer's Market!
October 11th, 10 am - 3 pm
Dennis will guide us through writing and art-making prompts to create pages to design a stamp that will be used for a collective Zine honoring our ancestors, water connections, and the history of Tibbetts Brook. Participants will also use up-cycled materials in the art-making process
